           Hi! I’m Weldon Langfield, author of The Truth about Divorce and Remarriage: A Politically Incorrect View of Marriage, Divorce and Remarriage in Today’s Church. In this presentation, we will continue our examination of the most discussed and frequently-cited passage in the marriage, divorce, and remarriage controversy, in discussions of MDR, Matthew 19:9, which says, “And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.”

Robertson L. Whiteside was one of the most scholarly preachers of the first half of the twentieth century. Dr. Frank Pack said in a graduate hermeneutics class that Whiteside’s Commentary on Romans is the best ever written. His daughter, Inys Whiteside, compiled and published his decade-long work as “Queries” editor for the Gospel Advocate in a compilation called Reflections, available until recently at brotherhood bookstores. Whiteside served as president of Abilene Christian College, conducted countless gospel meetings, and engaged in debates. He prepared the Gospel Advocate’s Bible school material for many years. Over the decades, he wrote hundreds of articles which were published in the Firm Foundation, Gospel Advocate, Bible Banner, Gospel Guardian, Christian Preacher, Gospel Guide, Texas Preacher, and The Way. Whiteside and C. R. Nichol co-authored Sound Doctrine, a five-book series of Bible lessons still in print and widely used.¹ R. L. Whiteside commented on 1 Corinthians 7:15:
